What is the Asatru Publishing Trust?
...under construction, that's what! And it will continue to
be, hopefully, for as long as it exists. Seriously, we're just
in the process of getting organized, so for the next few weeks
you will probably be seeing some broken links and other errata
as we get it together.
Our primary thrust is to act as an archive
and research library for the rebirth of Asatru.
This is not just another 'Lore Site' - with lot's of Eddas,
Sagas and linguistics from a thousand years ago. We have some
of those, sure, and we have links to
most of the other places on the web where they can be found.
We're about preserving and making available our 'modern' lore
- that is, material written or developed by Asatrurar in the
past hundred years or so. This is the material that is most in
danger of being lost, due primarily to the crazy quilt (and getting
crazier every day, it seems) pattern of copyright laws and regulations.
This is our lore - the
material we will leave on Midgard for our descendents.
We ask Asatru authors, artists, musicians and leaders to make
available material that they create, by placing it it the Common Domain, the public domain or by
using another Open Content
license. This allows us to gather their material into an archive,
both electronic and physical. We will eventually have an actual
research library operating in Central Indiana, and will make
the material available over the World Wide Web, to the extent
that that is possible.
How to Use this Site
We've tried to make the site as easy to use as possible: most
of the options on menus are pretty much self-explanatory, and
there's online help available where we think things might get
confusing.
To use some of the files on this site, you may need certain
other programs. For example, to play an MP3 sound file, you'll
need an MP3 sound file player. We don't offer any downloads from
here of that type of thing. But we do have some links
available. One thing you will find very useful is the Adobe
Acrobat Reader.
Remember that to download a file, rather than merely
view it, you'll need to follow the instructions for your particular
browser. Most of the time, this means right clicking on
the file name, and then selecting a location on your computer
to store it.
Most of the material on this site is open content of one form
or another - you can use it, link to it, copy it, even publish
it on paper or electronic media. If it's in the public domain,
that's all there is to it. If it's under an Open
Content License you must follow the instructions in
that license. If it's in the Common Domain,
however, you must give proper attribution, and reproduce
the Common Domain Document License in the reprinted or republished
material. We make available our tools
to help you do this - our goal is the widest possible distribution
of the lore we are creating, while at the same time preserving
our contributors copyrights and insuring that this material is
not misused.
We do have a few articles which are under a classic "restricted" copyright
- these items are linked from here and are always clearly
marked. They may not be used except with the express written
permission of the copyright holder, which we have obtained for
these select items. Obviously we prefer to archive and preserve
Common Domain and public domain items, but in some cases we feel
that the articles are of enough inportance to warrant this kind
of treatment. We cannot guarntee that we will accept any restricted
items: such judgements are at the sole discretion of our editorial
board.
What's New?
We've added many new documents over the past several weeks
since going "live", and can only urge you to check
out our collections page.
As I'm sure you're aware, a terrible terrorist attack on the
United States took place on September 11, 2001. The graphic below
has been beautifully done and generously donated to the entire
community by Alfta Reginleif of MSR.
